variety
Denver has many people (over 500,000 according to a 2006 US government census).
I'm not surprised at the diversity I encounter at poetry readings. I am surprised a bit by the lack sometimes -though it isn't always a total negative.
I'm going to a Poetry Meet-up tonight and I'm quite interested to see what it will be like.
I've enjoyed the readings, for the most. It's interesting to experience individuals from different generations, backgrounds, interests participating together. I'm not completely certain what to think of the total (in a community sense) or the each of the Poets, but who knows...
I knew before I began reading that some of my work wasn't verbal material. There is intentional multiplicity in some of it that seems eliminated or lost in reading out loud and sometimes the actual writing is nonsensical in that it is combinations or words or sounds that when looked at each possibility may be identified, but to pronounce it is ... difficult and possibly confusing. Some of the writing has been enjoyable to read though and the idea of immediate feedback is very pleasing.
It's also providing a social aspect that I haven't really enjoyed in writing, before now. I'm meeting other writers and there is an exchange of ideas and conversations and a sense of 'writing is something' in varying degrees.
now, if I can find a companion...
:)
